As such, The County's pick for Palm Beach County School Board District 4 is Christina L. Romelus.
Romelus stands out due to her unique blend of experience in this race. She is a former Boynton Beach commissioner and vice mayor, a nurse and an anatomy and physiology professor, a parent of two kids attending Palm Beach County schools, and a public policy expert.
Experience is key when considering a school board member position, especially given that school boards manage large budgets and many thousands of employees.
Romelus lists student literacy as a top priority. She has also noted that students’ health and safety is important in achieving educational success.
Most importantly, she knows that governance entails supervision and not control. Her experience in local government has prepared her on how to deal with the budgeting process, decision-making and community engagement.
The other candidate in the race is Daniel Zapata, who has some experience that is worth considering. However, the experience of Romelus in education, healthcare, local government and parenting gives her a wider and more well rounded view that we believe District 4 requires.
